Gouvia and
its Marina
Gouvia
is home to
Corfu’s main
marina and has a strong seafaring history going back to its days
as a Venetian naval base. The resort is located approximately
8km north of Corfu town, and sits in a tightly curving natural
bay.
Although so close to Corfu town, Gouvia can give
the visitor the impression that it is self-contained. The resort
offers a little of everything - there is plenty of life, a large
variety
of tavernas, shops, bars and clubs and there is easy access to
both town and other nearby resorts. From anywhere in the village
there is access to a choice of beaches and some quieter more
secluded spots for bathing. Tiny coves are also found closeby.
For many years sailors considered the harbour and
the bay of Gouvia a natural link between the Adriatic and the
Mediterranean Sea as well as a port of call, where they could
sail into relax and enjoy the climate the beauty of the island.
In the 17th century the Venetians chose the area of Gouvia as an
ideal location for creating a naval station and shipyards.
Between the Marina and the resort of Gouvia the remains of the
Venetian shipyard can still be seen today.
Gouvia marina was the first privately owned
marina in Greece and it has been operating since 1996.

Open all year round, it offers a vast variety of
facilities and services which include restaurants, cafés, a
super market, swimming pool, telephone, exchange bureau, fuel
station, taxi service, laundry, chandlery, 24 hour security
patrols guarding berthing areas and a private security company
operating all the entrances.
The marina’s total capacity is 960 berths, on
both permanent and floating pontoons, and there are also dry
dock facilities for approximately 520 boats. Moorings are
available for boats up to 80 meters long on both a short and
long term basis and are equipped with water, electricity and
telephone hook-ups.
Operating from the marina are the ‘AirSea Lines’
seaplanes. The company offer scheduled, charter and sightseeing
services throughout the Ionian including Paxos, Ioannina,
Lefkada, Patra, and Ithaki. Further details, 2007 schedules and
booking details can be found on their website:
